Between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, in addition to the world of scholarly studies and that of publishing, the fortunes of Dante’s texts can also be measured in the compact and sometimes restricted sphere of book collecting. Collectors linked to the French cultural world also participate in this interest in the Comedy and other Dante works. Dwelling on the activities of some prominent figures – such as Guglielmo Libri, the prince d’Essling and Horace de Landau among others –, the importance of their Dante collections will be underlined.
