Benoît Dompnier et al., « Norm of Internality and Units of Analysis: Redefining the Status of the Measurement in the Study of Social Judgment Norms », Revue internationale de psychologie sociale, ID : 10670/1.327391...
This article follows two papers recently published in the International Review of Social Psychology about the internality-norm theory and its measurement (Beauvois & Dubois, 2009a; Delmas, 2009). Firstly, we discuss some recurrent amalgams between two theoretical approaches: The Locus of control approach and the internality-norm theory. Secondly, we draw attention to some methodological difficulties that may have promoted these amalgams. Finally, we propose to take into account these methodological difficulties by redefining the status of the measurement and by choosing a unit of analysis more adapted to the study of the norm of internality: causal explanations rather than individuals. This change of units of analysis leads us to propose a new method more adapted to the study of the normativity of causal explanations: by randomly sampling the items included in these questionnaires.
