Résumé
The French Initiative for Coral Reefs (IFRECOR : Initiative Française pour les Récifs Coralliens) sought out the geographers of the University of French Polynesia (UPF) in order to establish a zoning proposal for a Biosphere Reserve in the atoll of Fakarava. The intention of this article is to validate the tools and concepts of social and cultural geography as a possible key to questions regarding the regulation and division of space. The procedure concludes with a final proposal of spatial mediation. The purpose is to justify the participation of Social Sciences, by the side of Life Sciences, in the management of coral reefs, and to make available to IFRECOR a methodology and the tools that are transferable to other spaces.
