Résumé 0

In the early 2000s, the use of imaging technologies in international airports was extended to detect of objects carried under passengers’ clothing. While the use of these instruments has been criticized, particularly for the risk of significant intrusion into passenger privacy, they have also been praised for the comfort they provide and their presumed ability to limit or even eliminate physical contact with security personnel. This article examines both the process of elaborating the regulations currently in place for using these scanners in French airports and the work put into redefining these digital body searches as tools of comfort and protection of fundamental rights.
