Résumé En

: Alopecia areata is a typical form of hair loss often in patches, although any hairy region may be involved. It is an autoimmune disorder that affects people with genetic predisposition exposed to some environmental triggers. Objective: To compile information on the most relevant aspects related to the diagnosis and therapy of alopecia areata. Method: We reviewed the literature available in Scopus, SciElo, Pub Med Central, MedlinePlus, Clinicalkey, LILACS, Orphanet, OMIM, WHO, INFOMED, as well as the Google Scholar search engine. Development: Based on the history of alopecia areata, its classification, etiology, factors to be taken into account for the choice of the ideal therapy, prognosis, particularities of the therapies used, education of the patient and his relatives. Conclusions: Knowing a wide range of elements to make the diagnosis of alopecia areata and options for better management and in relation to dissimilar and updated treatments, will allow improving the care of affected patients.Keywords: Alopecia areata; Naturopathy; Receptors, Mineralocorticoid
