Résumé 0

The Carlisle Indian Industrial School was a massivemolino de piedra (millstone) through which almost11,00o Native Americans passed between 1879 and1918. The purpose of the school was clear, to destroythe cultural identity of the “Indians” and toacculturate them into U.S./Western society. This essaylooks into the history of the young Puerto Ricanswho were sent there by the U.S. colonial authoritiesat the beginning of the 20th century.
