The present article analyses certain linguistic and artistic aspects that distinguish the religious inscriptions of lydian-phrygian origin. The high level of Greek knowledge shown in these inscriptions has been considered as evidence of the (profound) level of hellenisation of the people living in these regions of Anatolia. According to this author it is possible, however, to propose a different hypothesis that explains this situation in a different manner, taking into account the socio-cultural realities of these rural populations that had maintained a marked attachment to their own traditions throughout the centuries and with religion playing a dominant role.
