Cette réflexion vise à mieux déterminer ce qu’il en est du libre choix dans le choix conjugal. Le couple n’est couple que dans son inscription dans un groupe social, dans une histoire sociale prenant en compte l’histoire préalable des conjoints. Les appartenances, le besoin d’appartenance, l’économique, la crainte révérencielle envers un ascendant, le consentement et la maturité affective sont autant de facteurs abordés ici par l’auteur. Dans les crises, ce qui est le plus souvent reproché au conjoint est ce pour quoi il a été choisi. Aussi, ne serait-ce pas ce « consentement » à soi-même qui serait le plus difficile dans notre société ? Le refus de ce consentement menant à la séparation du couple...

CONJUGAL CHOICE, ALLEGIANCE AND CONSENT The thinking in the present article aims to determine how things stand in terms of free choice in conjugal choice. The couple is only really a couple in its enrolment within a social group, in a given social history, taking the previous history of the spouses into account. Allegiances, the need to belong, economic issues, reverential fear felt towards a forebear, consent and affective maturity are so many factors the author addresses here. In crises, what the spouse is most often reproached with is bound up with the very reason they were chosen.
