Résumé 0

"Objective. To describe the results of an epidemiologic surveillanceprogram, from 1990 to the first semester of 1997,in a new high-specialty pediatric hospital and perform acomparison with previous reports. Material and methods. The total number and type of nosocomial infections, theincidence rate and density incidence for department anddivision, for different age groups and according to immunestatues were registered. Results. The global incidence ofnosocomial infections during the period was 25.7 per 100discharges, with a progressive decrease during the last threeyears. Although immunocompromised patients had moreinfections than immunocompetent ones, the difference wasnot significative. The three most common infections were:pneumonia, vascular line infections and upper respiratorytract infections. It is possible that upper respiratory tractinfections are contributing to the elevation of global incidencerates of nosocomial infections. Conclusions. Thechange of infection epidemiology regarding previous experiencehas led to the implementation of programs to preventthe most frequent problems. It is necessary to intensifythe different prevention programs and to increase their reachin order to cut down costs in a short term."
