In 2004, Robert Wilson played a selection of La Fontaine fables at the Comédie-Française. The present article returns to the choices that preside over its staging and, in particular, the way in which he transposed the theatricality of the apologues. Voices, gestures, movements: borrowing from all the performing arts, Robert Wilson retains and exploits what he interprets in La Fontaine as a world of signs. At the centre of this universe of universal play, the animal acts as a totem, bringing us back to the first contact of man with the world.

En 2004, Robert Wilson fait jouer à la Comédie-Française une sélection de fables de La Fontaine. L’article revient sur les choix qui préside à sa mise en scène et, en particulier, la manière dont transposée la théâtralité des apologues. Voix, gestes, mouvements : empruntant à tous les arts de la scène, Robert Wilson retient et exploite ce qu’il interprète chez La Fontaine comme un monde de signes. Au centre de cet univers du jeu universel, l’animal y fait figure de totem, nous ramenant aux premiers contact de l’homme avec le monde.
