Le journal persanophone Ḥabl ol-Matīn et la question marocaine au début du XXe siècle

L’article s’intéresse au processus de colonisation du Maroc à travers le regard de Ḥabl ol-Matīn, un hebdomadaire persanophone publié à Calcutta de 1893 à 1930. L’article tente tout d’abord de dresser un portrait global de journal en étudiant les caractéristiques et les tendances de son fondateur, Seyyed Jalāl ol-dīn Kāshānī. Il interprète ensuite le regard de Ḥabl ol-Matīn sur « la question marocaine » par rapport aux événements politiques qui surviennent en Iran dans la première moitié du xxe siècle. Cette étude tente ainsi de comprendre les ressorts de l’intérêt et de la sympathie évidente de ce journal populaire en Iran pour le Maroc, en cherchant les points de comparaison dans la situation des deux pays face aux impérialismes européens au début du xxe siècle.

This article deals with the colonization of Morocco through the lens of Habl ol-Matīn, a Persian weekly newspaper edited in Calcutta, from 1893 to 1930. First, a picture of the newspaper is constructed by focusing on its founder Seyyed Jalāl ol-dīn Kāshānī’s biography and political leanings. Habl ol-Matīn’s perspective on the “Moroccan issue” is then interpreted in relation to the political events which took place in Iran during the first half of the 20th century. Accordingly, this article seeks to understand the newspaper’s favourable opinion of Morocco by emphasizing similarities between Iran and Morocco – which both had to contend with European imperialism in the early 20th century.
