Résumé En Fr

Elements that one considers as natural or human products can be all tackled through heritage concept by their common designation, their more or less consensual or adversarial social perception, as things worth to be protected and safeguard for transmission to future generation. The enhancement of Addis-Ababa’s urban space and landscape through heritage could be one of the means to improve urban environment’s quality The choice of Addis-Ababa in 1886 as a capital city would be attributable to its easily défendable site overlooking the lowlands, its abundant forests of indigenous species, the availability of sufficient water and even hot springs. With the ample introduction of Eucalyptus, by its population conserving rural customs and the speculating urban soil market, the city stilled very green during a long time. Today the management and production of green areas motivate various stakeholders from public or private sectors and from the community (NGOs, neighbourhood youth groups). If a kind of nostalgia for this mostly spontaneous greenery remains, the will of the various urban stakeholders that intervene on green areas seems more to converge on a rather aesthetic representation of the city. In the context of going on works of the research program “Environmental approach of urban dynamics in Addis-Ababa (Ethiopia)” (UR-IRD 029), we propose a route showing the diversity of green areas so as to tackle the heritage value of nature in town in the realm of the urban development of Addis-Ababa.
