Résumé 0

This article proposes a cross-reflection on two online ethnographies carried out between 2017 and 2020: the study of “jihadospheres, ” on the one hand, and groups dedicated to romantic and sexual relationships between people and machines on the other. Behind these two seemingly very different objects, common issues emerge, related to both the production and the acquisition of knowledge. We will first examine the ethical implications of an incognito approach, and identify the challenges surrounding the clandestine collection of sensitive data, before presenting the strategies put in place to compile our results in an ethical and therefore restricted way.
