This article focuses on the importance of considering the influence of attachment and of the life and placement paths of young children entrusted to the child social services, in a situation of care, on their psychic and emotional development. Based on the clinical vignettes of Chris and Kélian, encountered in the context of a pilot study, we explore the role of traumatic life experiences and child protection paths, sometimes tinged with ruptures, on their representations of attachment and their singular psychic problems. We show how, at the heart of child protection services, different temporalities are at work and encroach on the psychic temporality of children in care, leaving them in great psychic suffering. These illustrations make it possible to discuss the prospects for putting children back at the center of clinical practices, by considering their reception and adjusting support according to their functioning. The aim of attachment- and mentalization-based support is thus to foster a more harmonious psychic and emotional development of the child in care.
