En 2020, Reinhard Loske et Josef Göppel ont choisi de restituer le prix Herbert Gruhl qu’ils avaient respectivement reçu en 2005 et 2003. À cette occasion, ils ont affirmé publiquement que la Herbert-Gruhl-Gesellschaft était devenue une organisation paravent de l’AfD et que celle-ci détournait ouvertement la pensée de l’ancien député de la CDU et co-fondateur des Grünen à des fins électorales. Cette démarche a mis en lumière l’existence au sein de l’AfD d’une frange écoconservatrice autour des personnalités de Volker Kempf et Konrad Adam. Fidèles au diagnostic que leur maître à penser a proposé dans son bestseller Ein Planet wird geplündert, ces derniers justifient depuis plus de quarante ans leur hostilité à la croissance économique comme à l’immigration par la nécessité de préserver les ressources naturelles au niveau national. Ils considèrent que l’écologie est une cause fondamentalement conservatrice et que son ancrage majoritaire à gauche est le résultat d’un accident politique. Après avoir retracé les grandes lignes de la pensée de Gruhl, mis en évidence ses liens avec les thématiques de l’AfD et retracé le parcours sinueux des écoconservateurs de 1980 à nos jours, la présente contribution évaluera la position particulière de ces politiciens au sein du parti d’extrême droite et s’interrogera sur l’impact de leurs convictions sur le discours environnemental de l’AfD.
Ecoconservatives in the AfD In 2020, Reinhard Loske and Josef Göppel decided to return the Herbert Gruhl Prize, which they had received in 2005 and 2003 respectively. On this occasion, they publicly claimed that the Herbert-Gruhl-Gesellschaft had become a front organisation for the AfD and that the organisation had openly misused the ideas of the former CDU parliamentarian and co-founder of the German Greens for electoral purposes. This procedure brought to light the existence of an eco-conservative wing within the AfD centred around the personalities Volker Kempf and Konrad Adam. In keeping with the diagnosis made by their mastermind in his bestseller Ein Planet wird geplündert, they have been justifying their hostility to economic growth and immigration for over 40 years with the need to conserve natural resources at a national level. They believe that ecology is a fundamentally conservative concern and that her predominance on the left of the party spectrum was the result of a political accident. After having outlined the main features of Gruhl’s thinking, shown his connections to the AfD’s issues and traced the sinuous career of eco-conservatives from 1980 to the present day, this article will assess the particular position of these politicians within the far-right party and ask to what extent their beliefs impact on the AfD’s environmental discourse.
Zusammenfassung Ökokonservative in der AfD Im Jahr 2020 entschieden sich Reinhard Loske und Josef Göppel dafür, den Herbert-Gruhl-Preis, den sie 2005 bzw. 2003 erhalten hatten, zurückzugeben. Bei dieser Gelegenheit behaupteten sie öffentlich, dass die Herbert-Gruhl-Gesellschaft zu einer Tarnorganisation der AfD geworden sei und dass diese das Gedankengut des ehemaligen CDU-Abgeordneten und Mitbegründers der Grünen offen für wahltaktische Zwecke missbraucht habe. Dieses Vorgehen brachte ans Licht, dass es innerhalb der AfD einen ökokonservativen Flügel um die Persönlichkeiten Volker Kempf und Konrad Adam gibt. Getreu der Diagnose, die ihr Vordenker in seinem Bestseller Ein Planet wird geplündert aufgestellt hat, begründen sie seit über 40 Jahren ihre Feindseligkeit gegenüber Wirtschaftswachstum und Einwanderung mit der Notwendigkeit, die natürlichen Ressourcen auf nationaler Ebene zu schonen. Sie sind der Ansicht, dass die Ökologie ein grundlegend konservatives Anliegen ist und dass ihre überwiegende Verankerung auf dem linken Parteienspektrum das Ergebnis eines politischen Unfalls war. Nachdem wir die Grundzüge von Gruhls Denken skizziert, seine Verbindungen zu den Themen der AfD aufgezeigt und den kurvenreichen Werdegang der Ökokonservativen von 1980 bis heute nachgezeichnet haben, wird der vorliegende Beitrag die besondere Stellung dieser Politiker innerhalb der rechtsextremen Partei bewerten und die Frage stellen, inwiefern ihre Überzeugungen den Umweltdiskurs der AfD beeinflusst haben.
