Cette réflexion est axée sur l’étude des réseaux commerciaux anglais à Venise et dans les territoires grecs sous domination vénitienne (en particulier les îles de Zante et Céphalonie) entre le XVIe et le XVIIe siècle. Il s’agit d’analyser l’organisation du commerce anglais dans les territoires de la République et les méthodes grâce auxquelles les marchands anglais ont réussi à s’établir en des régions auparavant contrôlées par le réseau commercial vénitien, ainsi que les différences structurelles entre leurs entreprises en territoires ottoman et vénitiens. L’analyse est axée sur l’importance des contacts entre les marchands anglais et le réseau grec visant à établir, en Méditerranée « vénitienne », une coopération entre réseaux commerciaux étendue au commerce avec les Balkans.

The English and the Greeks. Commercial network of cooperation in the Venetian Mediterranean This essay is centered on the English commercial network in the town of Venice and in the Greek territories under Venetian control (particularly in the islands of Zante and Cephalonia) between the 16th and the 17th century. The issue is the structure of the English commercial presence in the Venetian territories, and the analysis of their swift establishment in areas previously controlled by the Venetian commercial network. Attention is focused on the modalities of the beginnings of the English penetration in the Eastern Mediterranean, and on the crucial differences between the structure of the English commercial presence in the Ottoman Empire and in the Venetian territories, enlarged to the crucial commercial cooperation established between the English and the Greek in the Venetian Mediterranean, a cooperation that extended also to trades performed with the Balkan area.
