L’abbaye de la Couronne au temps d’Isabelle d’Angoulême (1186-1246) à travers un document inédit

The times of Isabelle d'Angoulême coincides with the apogee of the Abbey of La Couronne, which is today ruined. It was a great times of works, with the rebuilding of church and conventual buildings. An original document from late 17 th or early 18 th century, preserved in the Sainte-Geneviève Library, in Paris, compared with the remain of the abbey, allows to know which buildings were still upright in the Modem Period, and to guess there evolution from the times of the first setting up untill the 18 th century. It also allows to understand the part played by this important monastery by the introduction of Gothic style, and particulary "Plantagenêt Gothic", in the diocese of Angoulême.

L'époque d'Isabelle d'Angoulême correspond à l'apogée de l'abbaye de La Couronne, aujourd'hui en ruine. C'est une grande période de travaux avec la reconstruction de l'église, suivie de celle des bâtiments conventuels. Un document inédit de la fin du XVIIe ou du début du XVIIIe siècle, conservé à la bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève, confronté aux vestiges, permet à la fois de savoir quels étaient les bâtiments en place à l'époque moderne et, au-delà, de mieux connaître l'évolution des bâtiments depuis le premier monastère jusqu'au XVIIIe s.. Il permet également de mieux saisir le rôle de cette importante abbaye dans l'introduction du style gothique et notamment du gothique angevin dans le diocèse d'Angoulême.
