"This paper studies Keshava Bhat´s naturistdiscourse. We outline as objectives: i) to reviseunderlying sense structures; ii)to identify strategyfunctions in discourse and iii) to compare itwith political discourse; the hypothesis statesthat the discursive strategies used by this authorshare some essential features with political discourse(Molero, 1999). The applied method is discourseanalysis (Van Dijk, 1980, 1997, 1999), followingPottier´s linguistic semantics (1992,1993). The selected sample is the introduction toThe Sense of Life (Bhat, 1994). We conclude thati) the referred discourse shares essential featuresof political discourse in its sense structures, althoughit differs in that the opponents identity isgeneric; ii) the macroact of talking is one of convincing;iii) we are in the presence of an ideologicaldiscourse in that it appeals to moral argumentsto outline a radical change in social relationshipsand values."
