Our contribution will address the representation of the “model woman” through ‘Patriotic Education’ textbooks in Egypt in order to understand their authors’ strategy when it comes to exposing the evolution of Egyptian women’s status throughout history. We will thereby analyze the place reserved for women in society and we will determine their input in their empowerment and their participation in the struggle against male supremacy in all of the spheres of public life. We will also examine the choice of female characters highlighted in the textbooks studied in order to draw attention to the qualities of the female figure promoted in these textbooks.

Notre contribution abordera la représentation de la « femme modèle » à travers les manuels scolaires d’Education patriotique en Egypte afin de comprendre la stratégie de leurs auteurs lorsqu’il s’agit d’exposer l’évolution du statut de la femme égyptienne au fil de l’histoire. Nous analyserons ainsi la place réservée à la femme dans la société et déterminons leur apport à son autonomisation et sa participation à la lutte contre la suprématie de l’homme dans toutes les sphères de la vie publique et privée. Nous examinerons également le choix des personnages féminins mis en valeur dans les manuels étudiés afin de dégager les qualités d’une figure féminine promue par ces manuels.
