"The paper is an attempt to provide a general typology of the processof change within Mexican universities over the last decade. Specialattention is paid to the new forms of logic which serve asguides to regulate the conducts of these institutions and thosewithin them. The paper also evaluates some of the most importantconsequences. As a result of this analysis, the final pages of thepaper are dedicated to identifying some of the crucial issues facinguniversities and on which their future depends. The outcome couldwell depend on the confrontation between those forces that supportthe consolidation of a neo-liberal style of university and those wishingto redirect it by means of a very different logic."
