The Russian emigration that followed the 1917 revolution and then the civil war (1917-1923) was an important demographic, political and social phenomenon that is usually divided into several waves that followed one another according to historical and political events. The largest wave, estimated at 2 to 3 million people, dates from the first half of the 1920s. Far from being a new phenomenon, it was not the last example of massive population movements. Nevertheless, it represents an important stage in the history of migration. In terms of international law, it contributed to the construction of the status of statelessness, notably through the attribution of Nansen passports - a new legal instrument used in the framework of the international protection of refugees and the fruit of a long history of refugee status. At the level of linguistic practices, processes of appropriation or distancing, it also offers interesting examples. The literary trajectory of the writer Gaito Gazdanov is enlightening in this respect.

L'émigration russe qui a suivi la révolution de 1917 puis la guerre civile (1917-1923) a constitué un important phénomène démographique, politique et social, que l'on a l'habitude de scinder en plusieurs vagues qui se sont succédé en fonction des aléas historiques et politiques. La plus importante, évaluée à 2 à 3 millions de personnes, date de la première moitié des années 1920. Loin d'être un phénomène inédit, elle ne sera pas le dernier exemple de déplacements de populations massifs. Elle n'en représente pas moins une étape importante dans l'histoire des migrations. Au niveau du droit international, elle a participé à la construction du statut d'apatride, à travers notamment l'attribution de passeports Nansen-nouvel instrument juridique utilisé dans le cadre de la protection internationale des réfugiés et fruit d'une longue histoire du statut des réfugiés. Au niveau des pratiques linguistiques, des processus d'appropriation ou de distanciation, elle offre aussi des exemples intéressants.
