In recent years, following an article by Umberto Eco, the use of computers has been considered as a form of religious practice. The opposition between Catholics and Protestants would be found in the philosophy underlying the interactions with the operating systems of Macintoshes and PCs. For Eco, the Macintosh is Catholic, Mac icons are indications of this spirituality. A precise reading of the historical differences between religions and the philosophies that govern operating systems leads to the following conclusion: the Macintosh is not Catholic, it is Protestant.

Depuis quelques années, à la suite d'un article d'Umberto Eco, l'utilisation des ordinateurs est assimilée à une forme de pratique religieuse. L'opposition entre catholiques et protestants se retrouverait dans la philosophie qui sous-tend les interactions avec les systèmes d'exploitation des Macintoshs et des PC.
