Objective. To explore the factorial structure of a Spanishversion of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey(MBI-GS). Material and Methods. A cross-sectional studywas conducted in 1999 among 149 municipal policemen inTenerife, Spain. A questionnaire was applied to collect dataon Professional Efficacy, Cynicism, and Burnout. Data wereanalyzed using factorial analysis and principal componentswith Varimax rotation. Results. Four factors had eigenvaluesgreater than 1; Factor 1 gouped Professional Efficacyitems, Factor II grouped three Cynicism items. Further analysiswas conducted to limit extraction to three factors. Thefactorial solution replicated the distribution of items in thequestionnaire manual. Conclusions. Study results whowthat the Spanish version of the questionnaire is valid andreliable.
