The Alukujana exhibition at ENCRE-EPCC les Trois Fleuves, from 25 May to 23 June 2023, as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the GADEPAM association, takes a special look at traditional Businenge art, tembe, and Wayana Amerindian art from the 1950s through to more contemporary works. The aim is to show the evolution of these traditional arts and their mutual influences, and also to highlight the fluid boundary between traditional crafts and more contemporary art. It's also an opportunity to look at the history and cultural influences between two peoples: the Afro-descendants Aluku (or Boni) and the Wayana Amerindians, both of whom fought against slavery and helped each other at the end of the 18th century in the far south of French Guiana to regain their freedom.

L’exposition Alukujana organisée à l’ENCRE-EPCC les Trois fleuves, du 25 mai au 23 juin 2023, dans le cadre des 20 ans de l’association GADEPAM, propose un regard particulier sur l’art traditionnel businenge, le tembe, et sur l’art amérindien wayana depuis les années 1950 jusqu’aux œuvres plus contemporaines. Le propos est de montrer l’évolution de ces arts traditionnels, de leurs influences mutuelles, et aussi de souligner la frontière fluide entre l’artisanat traditionnel et l’art plus contemporain. C’est aussi l’occasion d’aborder l’histoire et les influences culturelles entre deux peuples : les Afro-descendants Aluku (ou Boni) et les Amérindiens Wayana, tous deux en lutte contre l’esclavage, qui ont su s’entraider mutuellement à la fin du XVIIIe siècle, dans l’extrême sud de la Guyane pour regagner leur liberté.
