Sylvie Rollet et al., « (Ré)actualisation de l’image d’archives ‑ ou comment deux films de Harun Farocki parviennent à “anarchiver” le regard », HAL-SHS : histoire de l'art, ID : 10670/1.569ksg
In this article, Sylvie Rollet analyses two films from Harun Farocki made from found footage and archival photographs registered at the request of the Nazis: Images of the world and the Inscription of war (Bilder der Welt und Inschrift des Krieges, 1988) and Respite (Aufschub, 2007). What do these images present when re-viewed afterwards? How is there re-presentation - if we understand it as re-exposure and re-vision - proposed as critical reading? Does this reading aims their historical analysis or, more precisely, the transmissibility of these images, meaning, the possibility of their subjective appropriation by the viewer? What is the role of the resumption of these visual traces of the event in the creation, at present, of an image of that past? These are the questions that this article will seek to explore.
