Résumé En

This chapter explores the transformative phase in the lives of couples when their children leave home, highlighting the concept of a “new honeymoon”. It examines how couples who had previously put their marriage on hold during the child-rearing years can now redirect their attention and resources towards strengthening their relationship. The authors investigate three key aspects of this relationship model: engaging in shared everyday activities, developing future projects together, and using the temporal, financial, and emotional resources that become available after the children depart. The chapter acknowledges that the transition to the empty nest phase can be challenging for some couples as they adjust to a new dyadic arrangement. However, it emphasises that couples who prioritised their conjugal relationship alongside parenting find the transition smoother.
