Résumé
The article discusses the way derivational morphology can provide us a reliable means to assess whether a given lexical entity (verb or noun) is polysemic or not. The discussion is empirically rooted in a thorough account of French verb FONDRE 'melt', which shows first, the crucial role played by the verbal construction to distinguish the various existing meanings, and second the importance of conceptual configurations that delimit the limits within which semantic changes may occur.
