In this paper we report the discovery of a stele buried at the center of a dry pond (qocha) in the northern Lake Titicaca Basin in the south-central Andes. The stele is decorated with an image of winding body, feline head and a complex bifurcated, mouth with and appended ovoid motif. Through a series of stylistic comparisons and field data, we argue that the stele dates to Pukara times, which appeared in the basin after 500 B.C. and into the Late Formative period.
