Frédéric Dassas, « Are period rooms on the way back? », Dix-huitième siècle, ID : 10670/1.62de5b...
Today’s research and museum culture testifies to a renewed interest in period rooms. They emerged at the beginning of the 20th century as the combination of private collectors’ taste and museum curators’ novel concerns. Their success in the interwar period made them one of the main places devoted to the display of eighteenth-century century works of art. The concept of these rooms is related to several theoretical and practical issues that can be usefully studied in the light of recent exhibition practices in European and American museums.
