Research presented here are the fruit of about ten years collaboration between the research team «Géosystèmes» of UMR 6554, the coastal planning office (GPÇ) and the National Institute of Study and Research (INEP) of Guinea-Bissau. This collaboration was funded by the World Conserva¬ tion Union (IUCN) through her “Wetlands and water resources” programme. The report presents the theoretical, methodological and technical components of the setting up of a Geographical Information System dedicated to tropical coastal environment, and describes its cartographic application. It shows the progression between the scientific study of the coastal environment of the Bijagos Archipelago and the production of information layers in the geographical database. Finally, it presents the working conditions of the GIS dedicated to the integrated management of the Bolama-Bijagos biosphere reserve created in 1996.

Une fructueuse collaboration, établie depuis une dizaine d’années entre une équipe brestoise et des organismes bissau-guinéens, a obtenu le soutien du programme “zones humides et ressources en eau” de l’Union Mondiale pour la Nature (UICN). Cet article présente les composantes théoriques, méthodologiques et techniques de la constitution d’un système d’information géographique consacré à l’environnement côtier tropical, ainsi que son exploitation cartographique. Il décrit le cheminement entre l’étude scientifique de l’environnement côtier de l’archipel des Bijagos et la production de couches d’information dans la base de données. Enfin, il aborde les conditions d’exploitation de ce système d’information dédié à la gestion intégrée de la réserve de biosphère “ Bolama-Bijagos ” créée en 1996.
