Résumé 0

Festen highlights the family alliances that prevent the victim from speaking out. The film’s main character is a man eager to denounce the abuse committed by a rich father who is adored by all. One year after the suicide of his sister, Christian takes advantage of their father’s birthday party to expose his misdeeds to those assembled. However, the guests pretend to be oblivious to the seriousness of the reported facts. They seem to have unconsciously made an agreement not to hear Christian. As in real life, a difficult battle is waged between him and those for whom it is preferable to prevent his disclosures. Using this film as a basis, this article reveals the mechanisms implemented by the family to protect the group from the risks that the victim’s speech poses to it.
