Apartment buildings structure Beauvoir’s autobiography, that involves them as philosophical object. Their description passes by the rewriting of canonical texts that convey archetypes: Genesis, fallen Lucifer, Faust, Orpheus, etc. In Beauvoir’s work, art deco challenges Haussmann’s aesthetics and finds itself reflected in the author’s literary style, which gives the feeling that when reading Beauvoir, one actually sees the nineteenth century.
