Mouloud Feraoun. Un écrivain dans la guerre d'Algérie, Sylvie Thénault. L'écrivain kabyle de langue française, Mouloud Feraoun, a été assassiné en mars 1962 par un commando de l'OAS, quelques jours avant l'entrée en vigueur du cessez-le-feu. Comment un individu à l'identité plurielle, se revendiquant à la fois d'une culture kabyle, du système éducatif français et de la dignité algérienne a-t-il pu concilier ces différents engagements, au cœur de la tourmente des années 1954-1962 ? Ecrivain remarqué, en relation avec Emmanuel Roblès et Albert Camus, il a écrit plusieurs romans, publiés en France et en Algérie, qui posent le problème douloureux de la place du français dans la culture algérienne et tenu un journal publié après sa mort. Chronique des événements, ce texte condamne la guerre et la violence et montre les déchirements d'un homme favorable à l'indépendance mais hostile à la rupture avec les Européens d'Algérie.

The Kabyle writer in French, Mouloud Feraoun, was assassinated in March 1962 by an OAS commando, a few days before the beginning of the ceasefire. How could an individual with a plural identity, claiming Kabyle culture, the French educational system and Algerian dignity reconcile these different commitments during the upheaval of 1954-1962? A noted writer, in touch with Emmanuel Robles and Albert Camus, he wrote several novels published in France and Algeria that posed the painful problem of the place of French in Algerian culture; he also kept a posthumously-published journal. As a chronicle of the events, this text condemns the war and the violence and shows the wrenching of a man favorable to independence but hostile to the rupture with the Europeans of Algeria.
