Martine Gross et al., « Infertility: double gamete donation or embryo donation? », Dialogue, ID : 10670/1.6a6e7a...
The authors, who are sociologists, focus on the pathways and motivations of infertile people who go abroad to have access to dual gamete (i.e. both sperm and oocyte) donation. Whether couples or single women are concerned, double gamete donation has been a prohibited practice in France since the bioethics laws of 1994. Embryo donation is permitted, but only for sterile heterosexual couples. To explore this issue, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 women, including 3 in heterosexual partnerships. In most cases, their preference clearly went in favour of dual gamete donation. This paper highlights and analyses the reasons for this choice.
