The current situation has brought to the fore professionals who, in normal times, are rarely valued and poorly paid, but who are essential to the functioning of society. Foremost among these are caregivers. Sandra Laugier and Pascale Molinier, who coauthored a book on care in 2009, look at the reasons behind this invisibility, as well as its consequences.
