European Porcelains—Their Genesis and Development

Résumé En

The genesis of European porcelains from their first manufacture by Duke Francisco Medici in Florence in the 1570s to the exponential growth of manufactories in France and in continental Europe in the eighteenth century: through Fulham, Rouen, St Cloud and Paris to Meissen, with the first commercially successful operation from 1712. Several key factories are described in detail. The Fulham Pottery is included here chronologically between Medici and Rouen, although technically forming part of the English manufactories described separately in Chap. 15.
