Beautifying the city and imrpoving the streets with building permits: Lyons 1580-1770

The consulate had at Lyons during the modern period a constant action to improve the streets. A very efficient tool used to achieve this scope was the building permits which allowed for the widening of the streets and the respect of compulsory by-law for the façades. In consequence, the trafic and the beauty of the city were considerably improved.

A Lyon pendant l'époque moderne, le Consulat a eu une action constante pour améliorer les rues. Un outil très efficace pour atteindre cet objectif fut les permis de construire ( d' "alignement") qui permettaient d'élargir les rues et d'obliger à respecter certaines règles pour le dessin des façades. En conséquence, le trafic et la beauté de la ville en furent considérablement améliorés.
