This stratigraphical monograph on the Lower Inferior and Middle Lias of the Ardèche (South East France ; Eastern margin of the «Massif Central») involves the specification and analysis of the lithological formations and their variations in view of paleogeography. The analysis of the thick series of the Hettangian («faciès ardéchois») gives us the opportunity of defining the middle Hettangian (Portlocki and Liasicus zones) and discussing the zonal nomenclature. The paleontological part is restricted to Psiloceras and the Schlotheimiidae. The acceptance of the species Alsatites liasicus (d'Orb.) and Waehneroceras portlocki (Wr.) and the validity of the genus Waehneroceras are discussed.

L'étude stratigraphique du Lias inférieur et moyen d'Ardèche nous a permis de définir les formations et d'étudier leurs variations de part et d'autre du «seuil de l'Escrinet». L'analyse de l'Hettangien, épais dans les bassins, de «faciès ardéchois», nous a donné de nombreux éléments pour procéder à une révision des divisions de l'étage ; nous avons introduit et défini le terme «Hettangien moyen» (zones à Portlocki et à Liasicus). La partie paléontologique, surtout consacrée aux faunes hettangiennes, constitue une illustration des faunes récoltées. L'acception des espèces Alsatites liasicus (d'Orb.) et Waehneroceras portlocki (Wr.), la validité du genre Waehneroceras sont discutées.
