Résumé 0

The 2022 French presidential and legislative elections confirmed major, sharp electoral changes that have been identifiable since Emmanuel Macron’s election in 2017, in particular the collapse of the two former big governing parties. Put in historical perspective and analyzed through the lens of realignment theory, the 2022 elections can be seen as the moment of consolidation of a new electoral order, following its initial emergence in 2017–2019. The exact contours of this new electoral order remain largely unknown—only time will tell what shape they will take.
