Both rocks are vesicular and porphyritic, with olivine as major phenocryst phase, followed by idiomorph to hypidiomorph clinopyroxene, often arranged in clusters. The olivine phenocrysts often are skeletal and reveal alterations at their rims, mainly to iddingsite. The matrix is composed of plagioclase laths and sanidine, granular clinopyroxene grains and laths, altered olivine, opaque minerals, apatite needles, and glass.
