Résumé
This article examines the different possibilities of interpreting detached appositive constructions, very common in French newspapers (Fatigué, il partit " Tired he left > He left because he was tired " / Jeune, il lisait beaucoup " Child (> as a child) he read much "). Their interpretation is essential for foreigners whose own language does not have this kind of construction, and since it is often problematic even to Frenchspeakers, the study is based on paraphrases given by 30 French students for 20 different participial constructions.
