En 1992, Chantal Spitz écrivait, avec L’Île des rêves écrasés, le premier roman tahitien. Cet ouvrage, fondamentalement anticolonialiste, ne recule devant aucun défi dont celui, que ne renieraient pas Deleuze ni Guattari, d’ébranler, par le biais d’un récit individuel, océanien, l’assise établie d’une historicité collective, coloniale, ou encore, paradoxe ultime, de restituer à l’écrit et en français la sacralité et le souffle oratoire, performatif, d’une langue et d’un univers océaniens. De ce fait, ce roman nous interroge sur les phénomènes de bigarrure que l’auteure fait subir au genre aussi bien au niveau structurel que dans les représentations originales du personnage-écrivain ou dans celles du processus d’écriture.

In 1992, with L’Île des rêves écrasés, Chantal Spitz wrote the first Tahitian novel. This work, a fundamentally anticolonialist one, cannot step back before any challenge, for example, one which Deleuze or Guattari would not disown, which consists in shaking down, through an individual, Oceanian narrative, the established foundation of a collective, colonial historicity, or otherwise, ultimate paradox ! in restoring in writing and in French the sacredness and the oratorical, performative inspiration of an Oceanian tongue and world. In that way, this novel interrogates on the motley phenomena which the female writer imposes on the genre on the structural level as well as in the original representations of the character-writer or in those of the writing process.
