Manuela-Águeda García-Garrido, « Predicadores de la provincia bética en tiempos de Mateo Alemán (1547-1614): del oficio al beneficio », HAL-SHS : histoire des religions, ID : 10670/1.6u6p4t
Using the Franciscan Bethica province and its dedication to the ministry of the word in times of Mateo Alemán (1547-1614) as an example, in this article we will show to what extent the overseas expansion of this order affected the work of the preachers in the bosom of the Bethica province. Furthermore, we will consider the relations of the friars with the local aristocracy during this period, in which the presence of the seraphical Franciscan order became established in the New World. Those who evaded the Indian challenge found in the pulpit a means to redirect their ecclesiastical career from the metropolis.
