Résumé
Object of the present study are French Loanwords which occur as False Friends in Modern Greek. The specific research aims to examine the factors which influence their use by native speakers of Greek. In particular, we deal with the frequency and the propriety of use of French False Friends. We categorised the sample lexical units into ten semantic fields and we set control variables such as gender, age, education, status, knowledge of foreign languages. Based on the results of the research, we point out the need for systematic and methodical teaching of Loanwords and especially of False Friends in Greek.
