Résumé 0

The 2020 municipal elections are an opportunity to discuss three causal hypotheses: electoral stability results from an outgoing bonus which is reinforced in the event of massive abstention; city voting is the seat of a nationalization of electoral competitions; massive abstention gives more weight to the rational dimension of the vote against its emotional dimensions. We are discussing it in two stages. The first will be devoted to an overview of municipal elections in Occitanie, through the main trends observed. The dominant impression is that of a rather remarkable stability of the established municipal powers, with the notable exception of a few emblematic cases. The second time will be devoted to the Montpellier poll.
