Résumé
Our contemporary societies, caught up in a race for development and innovation, spontaneously conceive their historical future according to the idea of progress, to the detriment of a sense of tradition which is essential to their balance. The philosopher Fernand Dumont questioned this collective belief, recalling the importance of memory and of a certain relationship to the past for the future of any culture.
