Résumé 0

Which research practices, customs and skills, working environments and institutional frameworks foster interdisciplinarity? This was the main topic of a workshop held in January 2020, at which the experiences of INRAE (Institut national de recherche pour l’agriculture, l’alimentation et l’environnement) scientists were debated. It was first acknowledged that most research programs are designed to promote disciplinary studies, evaluation and professional careers. Discussions then focused on the means to encourage mid- and long-term risk-taking inherent in interdisciplinary approaches, to support scientists engaged in such research activities, and to recognize this commitment throughout their careers. Key recommendations included the need for greater flexibility in resource and time allocation, and for discussion forums dedicated to long-term exchanges.
