Résumé 0

This paper deals with the problem of principle in Plotinus's thought. He tried to show how to resolve a difficulty: on one hand, the first principle (the One) is considered as the producer of all realities and, for this reason, needs to be put in relation with them. On the other hand, he must be considered beyond all reality: How then can he remain a principle if there's no relation at all with what he has produced? The manner Plotinus answers this question is unconventional: by denying to the One all characteristics, he makes him powerful and attributes him the power to produce all the realities. It's only by this paradoxical argument that the problem can be solved.
