Our work proposes a study of the massive diffusion of trauma theory at the beginning of the 21st century. Theoretical approaches to trauma have gradually emerged as an autonomous disciplinary field, and have become the central theoretical trend in the evocation, reactivation or commemoration of the past, within the current reconfiguration of a globalized memory. More specifically, the aim is to understand the complex theoretical transfers and counter-transfers between North America and Latin America. We have chosen a comparative perspective to highlight the construction of a paradigm that makes Trauma Studies a matrix whose political, social and cultural role is to be questioned. From this point of view, we study the ethical and ideological implications of the apprehension of the Latin American genre of "testimonio" in the light of Trauma theory. The study of the recent institutionalization (especially in Argentina) of the field of memorial studies, allows us to understand the stakes of these attempts to unify both theoretically and academicallythe exponential growth of memorial issues and traumatic memories.
