To endow geography with social utility and train geographers-planners, higher education programmes in Algeria have been oriented since the 1970s towards applied aspects. The territory has indeed become a marker in the teaching of geography at university, influenced by North-South exchanges and encouraged by employment opportunities linked to planning professions. Despite the change in courses and improvements in educational content, sometimes generating tensions between actors with different theoretical references and bringing to the surface the dichotomy between academic knowledge and professional practices, the analysis of the interaction of man with space remained at the heart of this training to signify the territories designed and the territories produced. We want by this contribution to explain through a diachronic reading how the territory is taught in the Algerian universities, in which context its notion evolved and how its knowledge circulated between the North and the South.

Pour doter la géographie d'une utilité sociale et former des géographes-aménageurs, les programmes d'enseignement supérieur en Algérie ont été orientés depuis les années 1970 vers les aspects appliqués. Le territoire est en effet devenu un marqueur dans l'enseignement de la géographie à l'université, influencé par les échanges Nord-Sud et encouragé par les opportunités d'emploi lié aux métiers de l'aménagement. En dépit du changement des cursus et des améliorations des contenus pédagogiques, générant parfois des tensions entre les acteurs aux références théoriques différentes et remettant en surface la dichotomie entre savoirs académiques et pratiques professionnelles, l'analyse de l'interaction de l'homme avec l'espace est restée au coeur de cette formation pour signifier les territoires conçus et les territoires produits. Nous voulons par cette contribution expliquer à travers une lecture diachronique comment le territoire est enseigné dans les universités algériennes, dans quel contexte sa notion a évolué et comment son savoir a circulé entre le Nord et le Sud.
